Introduction

One goal of the Leptree project is to provide a complete on-line review of the lepidopteran fossil record. We will attempt to catalog all known lepidopteran fossils, providing complete data on their geographic origins, geological dates, descriptive literature etc. We will also post images of the fossils themselves. We will invite all lepidopterists and paleoentomologists to contribute to a critical review of the identification of these fossils. Ultimately we wish to provide the most comprehensive possible set of securely dated and identified fossils for use in dating phylogenies.
